Insurance for the operation behind every group trip
A local charter, a multi-day tour and a scheduled intercity route bring different insurance questions. Tell us how you book trips, the states you travel through, where coaches are kept overnight and whether you subcontract transportation to another operator.
We help present your fleet values, seating capacities, driver experience and loss history to transportation markets. Include current contracts and operating authority information so your coverage review considers the work you have today and the accounts you want to serve next.
Bus and motorcoach operations we help insure
Charter motorcoach companies
Provide passenger capacity, trip radius and charter arrangements for corporate groups, events and private bookings.
Tour & sightseeing operators
Describe local sightseeing and multi-day travel, overnight stops, destinations and any separately booked travel services.
Intercity passenger services
Include scheduled routes, terminal locations, interstate travel and operating authority details for review.
Hotel, airport & casino shuttles
Explain fixed routes, passenger turnover and the insurance terms required by the businesses you serve.
Minibus & midsize coach fleets
Schedule every unit with its actual seating, use and value. Mixed fleets need a clear description of each vehicle’s role.
Corporate & event transportation
Share venue and client contracts, peak-season use and any hired vehicles or subcontracted trips.
Coverage options to discuss with your agent
Commercial auto liability
Review protection for covered bodily injury and property damage arising from your declared passenger transportation operation. Match requested limits to the actual service and contracts.
Physical damage
Compare comprehensive and collision, deductibles and vehicle valuation. Include financed vehicles, custom equipment and conversions when presenting the schedule.
UM/UIM & passenger protection
Review uninsured and underinsured motorist options and any available passenger medical or accident coverage. Availability and elections vary by state and policy.
General liability
Consider business exposures beyond driving, including offices, terminals and premises. Commercial auto and general liability address different risks.
Hired & non-owned auto
Discuss rented vehicles, employee-owned autos and subcontracted work. Explain each arrangement so the carrier can assess the appropriate terms.
Umbrella / excess liability
Explore additional liability limits when requested by clients or appropriate for your exposure. Confirm which underlying policies the excess coverage follows.
Workers’ compensation
Request a review of driver, dispatch and office employee exposures. Employee coverage and independent-contractor arrangements should be evaluated separately.
Property & maintenance operations
If you own a depot, garage or equipment, describe those assets and any vehicle servicing. Ask about the separate coverages needed for those activities.
Coverage is subject to carrier availability, underwriting and policy terms.
Review passenger capacity, operating authority and contracts together
Required insurance depends on the service, vehicle seating, jurisdiction and whether you operate across state lines. Share your USDOT or other authority details and applicable contract requirements. We review requested limits and carrier filings without treating a certificate as a change to the policy.
What affects your insurance cost?
Coach values, seating, annual mileage, route radius, interstate travel, driver experience, maintenance practices and loss history help determine available pricing. Compare the same scheduled vehicles, liability limits, physical damage deductibles and valuation basis when reviewing renewal options.
A two-step fleet application
Save your business and contact information first. Step 2 opens on a separate page for coverage limits, vehicle and driver schedules, VIN decoding, CSV and AI-assisted imports, loss runs and supporting documents. Review the imported information and coverage summary before submitting.
Bus & Motorcoach Insurance questions, answered
Can I request coverage for one motorcoach?
Yes. Single-coach operators and larger fleets can submit a request. Include your operating experience, service type, passenger capacity and vehicle details for underwriting review.
How much liability coverage does a charter bus need?
The applicable minimum depends on the operation, passenger seating and jurisdiction. Interstate passenger carrier requirements and customer contracts may differ. Submit your authority and contract details so the relevant limits can be reviewed.
Can I include interstate tours and local charters?
Yes. Describe both activities, including states traveled, annual mileage, overnight stops and maximum operating radius. The quoted policy must reflect the operations accepted by the carrier.
Does physical damage cover the full value of my coach?
Valuation depends on the policy. Provide the vehicle value, financing details, installed equipment and conversion information, then review the proposed valuation basis and deductibles.
Are passengers’ bags automatically covered?
Do not assume so. Passenger belongings may require separate coverage or an endorsement. Describe your baggage handling and contractual responsibilities during the coverage review.
What about subcontracted or hired coaches?
Explain who supplies the vehicle and driver and who contracts with the passenger. Hired-auto, non-owned and subcontractor arrangements require specific review; another operator’s certificate does not establish your coverage.
Submitting an application does not bind coverage.
